On May 23, 2023 the BESS facility at Cove Hollow Road in East Hampton caught on fire. According to Bill Orlove, a NextEra spokesman they planned to have the damaged equipment removed from the site by the end of the year. This equipment Orlove refers to would have to be the tractor trailer container filled with thousands of Lithium-ion batteries. In the meantime residents of East Hampton are concerned about the toxic water that has leeched into their groundwater after this fire.
